Reflecting the Heart of Your Story
Public Performances

Sanitas Playback Theatre honours people's real-life experiences and serves to bring people closer together.

In our performances, stories are told live by volunteering audience members and then immediately re-enacted through the artistry of the ensemble's actors and musician.

Stories of Sacrifice

Our Theme of Enquiry:

Stories of personal sacrifice for the benefit of others can be writ large, small or anywhere in between.  Acts of sacrifice may be:
  • performed together by many or by an individual,
  • of benefit to all living creatures or to just one,
  • witnessed by millions of people or by no-one, and
  • of immediate benefit or towards a distant, future benefit.
How present is the practice of sacrifice in our lives?

Our Invitation to You:

So, in consideration of our show's theme, we invite you to think of some moments and stories from your life, times when you may have been:
  • the sacrificer,
  • the beneficiary of sacrifice, or
  • an affected witness to sacrifice.
For those of you who choose to share your story, it will be theatrically reflected back to you with honour

You may also choose to simply sit back, listen and bear witness to other people's stories and discover where they resonate with you.  Either way, this special evening of playback theatre is sure to engage you and enrich your connection to the community.

Food for Thought:

"Sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of the one you love is, by far, the truest type of love."  ~ Unknown
"The sacrifice which causes sorrow to the doer of the sacrifice is no sacrifice.  Real sacrifice lightens the mind of the doer and gives him a sense of peace and joy."
~ Mahatma Gandi

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."  ~ Spock
