Our Invitation to You:
Human beings are social animals. So how does the experience of belonging impact us?
Please join us in our theatrical reflections of your stories, both of times when you've felt that you do belong and of times when you've felt that you don't belong.
You can choose to share your story of belonging or simply sit back, listen and watch. Either way, this evening of playback theatre is sure to engage you and enrich your connection to the community.
A Note from Artistic Director Brie Barker:
"Presenting our show at OSSD is another happy indication of how Ottawa is further embracing both the human and theatrical value of playback theatre.
"OSSD also houses and runs the Ottawa Theatre School (OTS), a 3-year acting conservatory training program, for which I was recently invited to become a faculty member.
"As Sanitas Playback Theatre takes to the stage for this show, I will have just completed teaching the school's first-year students a 3-week course in playback theatre ~ a new addition to their curriculum.
"That course dovetails into a project in partnership between Sanitas Playback Theatre and OSSD. "Our Stories" has become an annual OSSD project that reflects their belief in active community engagement and service. The project's programming this year will be a series of 19 weekly playback theatre performances, spread between two of Ottawa's seniors' residences, wherein I'll be conducting the student acting ensemble that I taught at OTS.
"I'm heartened that OSSD/OTS has recognized the special nature and value of playback theatre ~ how it can offer something uniquely useful to their training of Ottawa's future professional actors and how it helps them serve and honour the community they work in. My special thanks go out to Bruce Bissonnette and Amanda Lewis at OSSD for making this happen!"
